Christel Dixon, D.O.

I grew up on a farm near Madison, KS, a small rural community in east central Kansas. I attended Emporia State University and received a Bachelor of Science with a major in mathematics. After collage, my husband and I stayed in Emporia where I worked as a claims representative for the Social Security Administration for seven years.

My second career, stay at home Mom, began when my children were 3 1/2 and 8 months old. A few years later my husband had a job opportunity that moved our family to Miami, OK. During this time, I served on the Parent / Teacher Organization (PTO) as secretary and president. I was also active in my local church where I served on the church board during merger and was mission president for 2 years.

After my younger son stated kindergarten, I returned to school at Missouri Southern State University to pursue a career in the medical field. We then moved to Verdigris in 2008 so that I could begin medical school at Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine in the fall of 2009. After graduation, I entered residency with Oklahoma State University Pediatrics in Tulsa.

My third career, pediatrician, begins in Claremore with Youth Care and Dr. Barnes in August of 2016 following completion of my residency training with OSU Pediatrics on June 30, 2016.

Throughout medical school and residency, my husband and I spent nights and weekends on the sidelines of soccer games and in the bleachers at basketball games cheering on our boys. Derek, 19, graduated from Verdigris High School last year and has completed his first year of college at OSU. Riley, 16, is entering his junior year at Verdigris High School this fall.

We look forward to continuing this journey in the community that has become home over the past 8 years.
